Maxxis British Drifting Championships 2010 – Round 3 Lydden Hill

I spent last Saturday at Round 3 of the British Drifting Championships (BDC) which was held at the Kent circuit of Lydden Hill on 19 June 2010.

I spent the day there with my family, and of course the camera.

The tournament is split into Semi-Pro and Pro classes.

Pro Cars

Simon Perry - Skyline R33 GTS-T

Declan Munnely - Mk2 Escort

Stiggy - Toyota Startlet

The Devils Elbow at Lydden is one of the best spectator motorsport photography locations, and it didn’t dissapoint. Despite varying weather, the series demonstrated some great skill and action, and like most club events, the access to paddock/cirsuit was fantastic.

The rain had been stop start all day, and was creating challenging conditions for the drivers.

after various qualifiers the top 8 were ready to battle. Mark Luney v Julie Robinson, Bon Bon v Dan O’Brien, Shane Lynch v Greg Gush and Vince Noott v Declan Munnelly.

After several rounds it came down to Boyzone’s Shane Lynch and last years European champion Mark Luney to fight for the championship round win.

Shane Lynch - S15

However just before the start of the two runs, Luney called a 5 min timeout, and his crew got to work on the car. As the 5 minute deadline approached there was no sign of Luney. With a sheared bolt on his wheel spacer, this left Shane to run a unchallenged exibition run and take the win.
